Visible. Approachable. Ready to Help.

Compassionate, fully trained welfare volunteers providing early intervention support, first aid and practical support when it’s needed most.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide compassionate, volunteer-led welfare support that keeps people safe, reduces harm and connects vulnerable individuals with the help they need, creating a safer and more caring Newcastle for everyone.

We will achieve our mission by providing a consistent, visible and professional volunteer welfare presence within Newcastle city centre during peak periods of vulnerability. Initially operating on Saturday evening from 11am till 4pm, our trained volunteers will proactively patrol key locations, engaging with members of the public, licensed venues, emergency services and partner organisations to identify and support people who may be at risk.

Using a trauma-informed and person-centred approach, volunteers will offer practical assistance including welfare checks, Safe Walks, emotional support, basic and trauma first aid, and help for individuals affected by mental health crises, alcohol or substance misuse, homelessness or other vulnerabilities.

Where appropriate, volunteers will provide immediate reassurance and connect individuals with specialist services through established referral pathways, ensuring people receive ongoing support beyond the initial contact.

We work to reduce harm, support vulnerable people and ensure no one has to face a crisis alone.

What we do

Newcastle’s Welfare Team are here for you.

No matter how heavy things feel, or how lost or alone you may be, you do not have to face it on your own. Whether you need support for yourself or for someone you care about, we will stand beside you and help guide you through the darkest moments.

Your life is precious. Your story matters.

We will always make time to listen, to care, and to be here when you need us most. Tomorrow is worth fighting for.

Mental Health Support

We provide a welcoming, non-judgmental space for anyone emotional distress or are in crisis. Our team is here to listen, offer practical guidance and help you connect with the right support.

With over 4 years of experience in crisis intervention, we use a lived experience approach to provide you with the comfort you need in a time of need.

Trauma First Aid

We offer first aid help with minor injuries or trauma incidents. Our team are trained in basic and trauma first aid, carrying first aid equipment on all patrols, and provide necessary intervention where appropriate.

This is not in replacement of emergency services but provides life saving interventions in the crucial minutes till they arrive.

Referrals

We help you access the right support for your needs. Our team can explain the available options and provide referrals to trusted professionals where appropriate.

Our referrals are made immediately through bespoke software that sends your referral details to the relevant service, right there and then meaning no delays in accessing support.
